Project overview
This Newport Heights home has an arched garage opening, a common detail on Mediterranean-style homes near the coast. The old door was a flat one-piece tilt-up with filler boards at the arch, and the gaps let in wind and sand.
We installed a white raised-panel steel door with an arched top section that follows the curve of the opening, along with a new opener with an LED light.
Client requirements
The owners wanted the door to follow the arch exactly, with no filler boards, and to seal tightly against coastal wind.
- Door shaped to the arched opening
- Tight seal against wind and sand
- Replace the swing-out tilt-up door
- Bright opener light for the garage
Our solutions
We templated the arch, ordered a section with a matching curve and reframed the side jambs for a clean seal.
1. Arched top section:
Factory arched section matched to the opening, with no filler boards.
2. Sectional conversion:
Tilt-up hardware removed, new tracks and torsion springs installed.
3. Weather sealing:
New jamb stop and bottom seal for coastal wind and sand.
4. LED opener:
Belt-drive opener with an LED light and battery backup.
Result & client feedback
The arch now looks finished and the garage stays free of sand. The sectional door also frees up driveway space, since it no longer swings out. Interested in something similar? Read about our garage door installation service.
"It finally looks like the door was built with the house. No more gaps at the top."
